-Winners to get N.5million
In line with the pledge made by the Chairman, Ijede Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Motunrayo Gbadebo – Alogba, the opening game of the Chairman’s Cup, a 5 – Aside Football Tournament kicked – off with excitement and on a technical note.
The tournament which will run for three weeks at Anwar – Ul – Islam Primary School, Ijede, was declared open by the sport loving council chairman who also performed the ceremonial kick which was followed by uproar from the political office holders, management team, guests and hundreds of teeming football fans at the arena.
The highly entertaining opening match between Ahmadiyya FC and CMS All – Stars FC ended 1 – 1, with both teams displaying highly technical soccer skills to outplay each other.
But no team was able to convert many scoring chances created into goals.
16 teams will in the next three weeks compete for the star prize of N500, 000 while the second and third placed teams will get N300, 000 and N200, 000 respectively.
In her remarks, Hon. Gbadebo – Alogba, noted that the tournament was initiated to promote and discover talents which abound in Ijede and also use the game to advance cooperation among youths.
She reiterated her administration’s commitment to sports and other initiatives that would support and develop youths in her council.
“This tournament aims to discover talents and promote the spirit of healthy competitions among youths.
“I congratulate the Agricultural Department for the preparation and its dedication. I also congratulate Ijede Football Association, coaches, and trainers for the hard work and commitment in preparing our players for today.
“I thank you and most of all, to our talented players, I say ‘well done.’
“I want to reaffirm my administration’s commitment towards growth of all areas of lives here in Ijede LCDA.
“We will continue to support and invest in sports and initiate programmes that are youth oriented in other to consolidate the THEMEs – Plus agenda of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo – Olu’s administration”, she said.
The council chairperson urged that the most of the opportunities must be made to celebrate the players and enjoy the spirt of sportsmanship.
At the opening ceremony were Hon. Kabir Kareem, Vice Chairman, Ijede LCDA, Mr Kunle Olambiwoninu, Secretary to the Ijede LCDA and other cabinet members. Hon. Kehinde, Council Leader led other Councilors, while Hon. Sarumi, APC Chairman, Ijede LGA led the party chieftains and Hon. Kehinde Fesomu, CDC Chairman, Ijede LCDA led community developers who also stormed the arena in large numbers.
The Ijede management team who were fully on the ground were led by the Head of the Council Administration, Mrs Adebimpe Akintola,
